New Law Targets Illegal Medical Spas in California

It can be tempting to just go for the lowest price when shopping for Botox injections, laser hair removal, and other cosmetic treatments such as injectable fillers. But if you find a price that just seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Therefore, the state of California has begun to go after medical spas that operate outside the guidelines, for instance, not being owned by a medical doctor (who must maintain at least a 51% ownership share) or not having a doctor supervise the staff.

The state is increasing fines in instances of violations to a maximum of $50,000. This amount can actually double in the event that fraud is proven.

So what can you do to avoid falling victim to an illegal clinic? Seek out the services of a licensed medical doctor in your area, preferably a dermatologist.
