Types of Wrinkle Fillers

Interested in a wrinkle filler procedure, but aren’t sure which version you should use? The Kopelson Clinic, your friendly Beverly Hills dermatologists, offers a variety of wrinkle filler options, each with its own benefits and “shelf life.” Let’s look at a mere few of the possibilities available to help determine which option best suits your needs:

Juvederm Voluma XC

This injectable hyaluronic acid gel is the “first FDA-approved filler” to “instantly add volume” to the cheeks. It results in a “subtle lift” to create a more youthful-looking profile, and lasts up to two years. Juvederm is designed to add volume to all three cheek areas, you may resume normal activities 24 hours after the procedure. Side effects are rare but include temporary tenderness, swelling, redness, and itching.

Belotero

FDA-approved in 2011, Belotero is a hyaluronic acid filler that disperses so well, the chance of a Tyndall Effect, or a bluish tint in fair-skinned folk, is low. Ideal for treatment of “smoker’s lines,” or those tiny lines that form above the lip, it also works well for smile lines, chin lines, and chin strap lines. As of this time, no side effects have been reported for Belotero! The filler works for six to 12 months.

Perlane

A dermal hyaluronic acid filler approved by the FDA in 2007, Perlane is used to fill deep wrinkles and folds on the face, as well as for volume repletion. It is frequently used at the corners of the lips, below the mouth, in naso-labial folds, and around the mid-cheek area. It is also used to add volume and definition to the cheekbones, jawline, and chin. It even works for acne scars! Results are immediate and last up to 12 months. Side effects are mild and include swelling, pain, itching, redness, and bruising.

Radiesse

Another wrinkle filler offered by your favorite Beverly Hills dermatologists, this FDA-approved filler reverses sun damage and is used to fill deep facial folds and wrinkles. The filler of choice for a “non-surgical nose job,” Radiesse fills in scars, smooths and adds volume to the cheeks, chin and corners of the mouth, and stimulates collagen production. Created to last a year or more, mild side effects include redness, bruising, and swelling.
