Stretch marks are a common problem for many, and range from mild to severe. Growth spurts, weight gains and losses, and pregnancy are the most frequent causes of stretch marks, as such factors affect the dermis, or skin’s elastic layer.

These marks usually appear on the thighs, abdominal area, hips, underarms, breasts, and back. The Kopleson Clinic is thrilled to offer patients suffering from stretch marks with custom laser treatments. Treatment is determined based on development stage. For example, “young” marks, i.e. those red or purple in color, require a vascular laser. Old stretch marks, i.e. those which are white or “silvery,” require collagen-stimulating lasers.

Ideal Alternative to Creams

Stretch mark creams and lotions affect the epidermis or top layer of skin only. Laser treatment goes deeper than the epidermis to affect the elastin and collagen found in the dermis, making it a much more comprehensive, effective treatment. New stretch marks arguably respond better to laser treatment than older marks. However, treatment is still more effective on old marks than assorted creams and lotions.

Is the Procedure Painful?

You may feel a stinging sensation while undergoing laser treatment for stretch marks, but this sensation is very mild. Many patients feel little to no pain when having this procedure done.

Are There Any Side Effects?

The only potential side effects from this treatment is slight bruising and bleeding. These issues resolve themselves two to three weeks after the procedure.
